An adage says "If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming."
Do you know someone who is selfish, loud and obnoxious, or someone who lies, cheats and is disrespectful? To treat a liar as a liar only serves to make their behavior worse. To view that person as a liar keeps them in that place of distrust. Can you imagine them with more noble qualities? The key is to treat such people as if their behavior is as it should be. Can you give any greater gift than that of acceptance? When that person can begin to see themselves through your eyes as worthy and acceptable, you have just extended them the gift of grace. At that point of feeling worthy that person can turn that gift of grace into new eyes for themselves and begin the journey of finding their true potential. Is there someone waiting for a new set of eyes through which to view themselves?
