Alex Preston “hit the bullseye” on Wednesday

Daily Motion)

Alex Preston “hit the bullseye” with the first-ever One Direction cover on ”American Idol” on Wednesday.

The contestant performed a slightly reworked version of “Story of My Life,” winning unanimous praise from the judges.

“You just hit the bullseye on the artistry target,” Harry Connick Jr. told him afterward. “You have been so consistent with your artistic choices that I’m really starting to understand who you are.”

He added, “I think you may be leading the pack in that category. Really nice job, Alex.”

Keith Urban agreed, saying, “What’s interesting about this stage of the journey is I think we’re starting to see where the artists are coming in — that was great.”
