Five things we learned from Chanel’s Salzburg show

If London had the Victoria Secret’s show on Tuesday, Salzburg was also – oddly, perhaps – a fashion centre on Tuesday, thanks to Chanel staging its Metiers d’Art in the Austrian city. Here are five things we learned.
Cara and Karl … BFFs?

1. Kendall and Cara are fashion’s new BFFs but Cara and Karl are a pretty good combo too.

At the British Fashion on Monday night, the two models were seen hand in hand, and they walked the catwalk together here. But Cara dressed in white frills and bows (rather than her getting-ready onesie), with Karl in signature collar and pompadour, and tucking into a cookie was positively heartwarming. Christmas has come to Chanel.

2. Fashion people like to look at food even if they don’t always eat it.

See the centrepiece here, which was piled high with all manner of fruit, pastries and cookies, in ornate bowls. Guests were served tea and sat in gold chairs. All very baroque. In an ideal world this is what you want your Christmas to look like.

3.Wear your hair long with a bit pinned back

This was the beauty take away. Think Clara from the Nutcracker crossed with Jean Shrimpton in the 60s. Add a black velvet bow for the full look.

4. The Austrian alps were an inspiration

Largerfeld loves referencing the locations of his Metiers d’Art shows which move around the world (see Americana in Dallas last year). Folksy Tyrolean style (a favourite of Mrs Prada too) got a look in here – with pretty felt florals on dresses, and a jacket that looked like it should be accessorised with a feathered cap. The ear muffs turned into Heidi-style hair buns was classic Lagerfeld – and definitely our favourite bit.
It's all about the food … sort of

5. Dick Turpin is your style reference

Judging by feathered hats, frilled blouses and neat shiny boots anyway. A horse and career in highway robbery optional.
