In the wake of the xenophobic attacks on Africans in South Africa, the House of Representatives thursday urged the Federal Government to promptly recall the Nigeria's High Commissioner to the country.
Cautioning that Nigeria will no longer treat the wanton killings of its citizens with levity, the House prompted by a motion of urgent matter of public importance moved by the chairman of the House Committee on Diaspora Matters, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the House expressed sadness that the attacks has claimed many lives, ruined businesses and left many wounded.
Attributing the mayhem to an alleged statement by the South African Zulu King, Goodwill Zwelithini, "Nigeria frowns at the attacks and will no longer tolerate the killing of its nationals in South Africa. President Goodluck Jonathan must immediately convey this to President Zuma as a matter of urgency," the House resolved.
It also agreed that: "Nigeria should recall its High Commissioner from South Africa pending when the attacks will stop."
The lawmakers appealed to the federal government to apply the diplomatic principle of reciprocity in dealing with South Africa, adding that if South Africa continues to frustrate Nigeria businesses, Nigeria must also do the same to South Africa businesses in the country.
