Senate ready to block leakages, reduce oil theft

saraki, senateThe Nigeria Senate on Tuesday stated that it will make laws that would revert the nation back to financial buoyancy once again.
Senate President, Bukola Saraki said this in his address to welcome Senators back from recess.

He pointed out that Nigeria’s oil revenue profile had taken a great hit, not only as a result of drop in oil receipt, but noted that the plummet was as a result of oil theft, indiscriminate grants of numerous import duty waivers, which unfortunately brought the nation to its knees.
He expressing the readiness of National Assembly to tackle these issues, through legislative frameworks that would block leakages and reduce oil thefts to the barest minimum so revenues can increase.
“We cannot afford to watch the mind-boggling leakages in our oil receipt to go on”, he said.
Saraki said President Buhari’s determination to ensure that all revenues due to the country from oil were recovered were in tandem with the Senate, hence, it would enjoyed its cooperation.
Noting his ill-feeling on Boko Haram resurgence, he disclosed that National Assembly would constitute a high powered delegation to visit the troops on the battle line and victims of attacks.
In a matter of days, I will constitute a high powered delegation to visit our troops and some of our internally displaced persons”, he noted.

He further reiterated the willingness of National Assembly to support Buhari to comprehensively rout Boko Haram, while urging all and sundry to be optimistic that the menace will soon be dealt with.
