How many medals could Team GB win at the Rio Olympics and will they beat China?

It's been an incredibly successful Rio 2016 Games for Team GB - but can they pip China to second?

espite setting a very high bar during London 2012, Team GB are doing all they can to leap higher still and surpass pre-Olympics expectations.
Rio 2016 has been littered with gold medals - 19 and counting - with several more opportunities to come as the Games draw to a close.

Perhaps the biggest surprise, however, is how Britain have kept in front of China with only four days remaining.
But can it continue?
So far Britain has secured 50 medals in total, while China has managed 54. However, Team GB are still officially in second place in the medal table thanks to 19 silver medals compared to China's 15.
However, if the final few days of Rio go according to pre-Olympic predictions, it will be China that finish on top with 22 golds compared to Team GB's 20.
Here's a projection of Team GB and China over the next few days through data from Gracenote.
