PRESS RELEASE: 1000 WALK FOR #SOCILAJUSTICE EVENT

FOR: MEDIA OUTLET ACROSS NIGERIA

Intro: on the 18th of February, 2017, an ordinary and people driven civil society group named The Counsellor Organization that is committed to fighting for the welfare, interests and emancipation of the Nigeria People from poor governance and failed leadership in Nigeria took to the street of Lagos State to walk in support of Social Justice because the absence of Social Justice in any nation will lead to social injustice.
Nigerians converged at Ikeja under bridge and took a tireless long walk through Allen roundabout and end the peaceful walk at Ogba.
It was a walk of resilience, determined and sustained citizenry, a struggle whose time has come to stay and there will be no looking back. With no party ownership and support, Nigerians made a statement that signifies the beginning of mass engagement for the good of all. This group of ordinary Nigerians has been attracted by internal members who pulled their hard earned resources together to make this “1000 Walk for Social Justice” a success and as well as Comarade Efe T. Williams (President of FAFIC), Comrade Adekunle (Chairman of YPNI), Comrade Ayodeji Ogunsusi EQS and Ambassador Hussaini I.H. Coomassie whose support has been immeasurable.

We also want to appreciate all well-meaning Nigerians who joined and those who were unable to join the Walk and we also extend our heartfelt gratitude to Sahara Reporters, Vanguard, News Agency of Nigeria and other online news outlets.

The Counsellor Organization feels that active Political Process participation and Massive Public Enlightenment campaigns and engagement of a knowledgeable populace is the best solution to solving the eternal societal, moral, political and leadership crisis in our country as well as the social problems that pose serious challenges to our security, economy and national developmental objectives and initiatives.

All our objectives will be pursued and aggressively sustained; we will not relent until the wishes of the Nigerian People are met.
For the #TheCounsellor Organization our campaigns focused but not limited to the following:

1. That the Federal and States government will promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom, to practice tolerance and good neighborliness, and to solicit the Nigerian government to employ international machinery for the promotion of the economic and social advancement of all peoples.

2. That the Nigerian government must treat human rights nationally in a fair and equal manner, on the same footing, and with the same emphasis. While the significance of national and regional particularities and various historical, cultural and religious backgrounds must be borne in mind, it is the duty of States, regardless of their political, economic and cultural systems, to promote and protect all human rights and fundamental freedoms.

3. That the Nigerian government will focus more on Youth Empowerment and employment to reduce extreme poverty in the country and also guide against slave labour, domestic and child labour.

4. Action against domestic violence: There are still provisions in the Nigerian constitution that make it legal to engage in domestic violence against women. The provision of the panel code applicable in the Northern part of the Nigeria specifically encourages violence against women. Underneath its provisions, the beating of a wife for the purpose of correction is legal by the use of section 55(1)(d) of the Penal code. Citizens demands for a repeal.

5. Drugs for AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria.

6. Improve the quality of education through adequate learning infrastructure in public schools.

7. Ending user fees for basic health care in the country.

8. Provision of social Amenities.

9. Training programs for community health in rural areas.

10. Engagement of the people in governance through transparency and accountability.

Our profound gratitude goes to the Nigerian Police Force especially, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police who made sure that all the Nigerians who participated were given 100% security all through the walk.

The Counsellor Organization is building structures in all the 36 states of the Federation including the F.C.T. interested members are invited to join this movement.

Thank You.
