It gets really frustrating when you are trying to lose weight and nothing seems to be happening. You do everything from going to the gym and dieting, yet it all seems to be in vein, is this you? It might be because you have held on to some myths of weight loss and its having a negative effect on your plan to shed that weight. Let us set you on the right track with the right beliefs so you can lose some weight.

  1. Consuming fat will make you fat: Fat does not necessarily make you fat infact consuming foods that contain healthy mono saturated fat such as avocados, nuts and olive oil should be part of your regular diet as these types of fat are good for the heart and they keep you full which help block craving to eat constantly and that saves us from acquiring unnecessary fat.
  2. A cheat day is OK: Setting aside a day from our diet plan to eat unhealthy and indulge ourselves just seems logical. We tell ourselves a day won’t hurt but if you really want to lose weight, you have to permanently alter your lifestyle and eat healthy always and stop thinking that after eating unhealthy you can just sweat it out.
  3. Less food equals greater weight loss: Actually, the less you eat the faster your metabolism will slow to a crawl; it’s your body’s way of conserving energy. Weight loss should not be about starving yourself but trading unhealthy foods for good-for-you options that make you feel satiated and energized.
  4. If you “mess up” during the day you might as well keep it up for the rest of the day: Sometimes we get to slip and get off track during the day but this doesn’t mean that we should throw caution to the wind and eat whatever we like, instead of feeling defeated that we have overeaten we should try and get back on track.
  5. You can eat as much as you like as long as it’s healthy: When we eat large quantities of food our stomach tends to expand whether is healthy or unhealthy food; so you tend to eat more. Some so-called healthy foods are too low-fat, low-sugar, and low-carb to be satisfying, leaving you craving more and also feeling tired and bloated.
  6. If you are not hungry at breakfast, you might as well save the calories for lunch: We have all heard at various times that breakfast is the most important meal of the day well this point cannot be overemphasized when you are trying to lose weight. Even though most people typically eat the majority of their calories later on, it’s actually smarter to consume more calories early on so that your body can burn the calories throughout the day.
