Fans petition Death to 'reinstate Terry Pratchett'

Sir Terry Pratchett dated 1/5/2012
More than 5000 fans of Terry Pratchett have signed a petition urging Death to "bring back" the late author. The petition was started by Tom Pride, a political blogger, shortly after Pratchett's death was announced: "Because Terry Pratchett said this: 'There are times in life when people must know when not to let go. Balloons are designed to teach small children this.'"
Pride (a pseudonym) said that Pratchett was a "modern-day Jonathan Swift". He hoped that his petition would eventually outrank the one started to reinstate Jeremy Clarkson. "If there was any justice in the world, the petition would be bigger than Jeremy Clarkson's," he wrote in an email. "But there isn't, so it won't. However, I'm told these petitions can be quite effective – so you never know, it might just work."
The black-cloaked figure of Death has a role in almost every novel in Pratchett's Discworld series, and has been the lead character in several, among them Mort (1987), Reaper Man (1991) and Thief of Time (2001). In Discworld, Death is baffled by humankind – although he is fond of cats.
Rhianna Pratchett, daughter of the author, made reference to the character in a series of tweets following her father's death. They were also the final tweets sent from Terry Pratchett's official account. In the novels, Death's speech is indicated with block capital letters:
AT LAST, SIR TERRY, WE MUST WALK TOGETHER.

Rhianna Pratchett will continue to write Discworld novels, having been given her father's blessing to do so before his death. "The Discworld is safe in my daughter's hands," he said.
Commenters on the petition paid tribute to their hero. "I gave him countless hours of my life and he rewarded every second many times over," wrote Cat Finn from Manchester. Felicity White from Reading added: "I was going to say there's no justice in losing Terry Pratchett, but then Death did say 'THERE'S NO JUSTICE. THERE'S JUST ME'. So I suppose I'm signing because I want us to remember him as best we can."
