The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State yesterday warned the lawmaker representing Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani, to desist from attacking President Muhammadu Buhari or face expulsion.
The party had placed him on 11 months suspension over alleged indiscipline, disloyalty and anti-party activities.
Addressing a news conference in Kaduna, APC Acting Publicity Secretary Salisu Tanko Wusono supported Federal Government’s decision to remove fuel subsidy.
He said he wondered why Sani, one of the senators who passed the 2016 budget that had no provision for subsidy, turned around to attack President Buhari for removing the subsidy.
Wusono noted that Sani’s attacks on President Buhari began last year when he formed an alliance with greedy and disloyal senators, who defied APC’s order and foisted a strange leadership on the Senate. He said: “Shehu Sani followed up by attacking the President for fighting corruption.
“APC, Kaduna State chapter, decided to teach Sani a lesson in party discipline, hoping that he would be reformed. He was suspended, but instead of learning his lesson, be remorseful and work towards becoming a responsible senator, he has chosen to continue to show disloyalty to the APC and President Buhari.
“Given his disregard for the party, the APC in Kaduna State has no option but to take further disciplinary measures that may lead to his expulsion.
“The party is dismayed and disappointed by the irresponsible conduct of Sani. In speech and conduct, he has shown himself incapable of being loyal to our party, the APC and our great leader, President Buhari. Having ridden on the back of our party and the popularity of President Buhari to get to the Senate, Sani has since abandoned any pretension to discipline or loyalty to any principle.
“He pretends to be with the people, but his masters are the corrupt people on whose behalf he has been attacking our President.
“How can a politician with any sense of discipline, or commitment to the public interest, fail to see that the fuel subsidy regime is bankrupt and no longer in the interest of our people? “How can a senator, who passed the 2016 budget that has no provision for subsidy, turn around to attack President Buhari for implementing the decision?
“Sani’s attacks on President Buhari began last year. Before he was sworn in as a senator, he formed an alliance with a group of corrupt, disloyal and greedy men who defied our party, went against its wishes and foisted a strange leadership on the Senate. The gang that Sani joined had no problem making a PDP man Deputy President of the Senate, all in their selfish and ungodly calculations for 2019. Sani followed up by attacking the President for fighting corruption.”
The Senior Special Adviser to Senator Shehu Sani on Politics and Ideology, Suleiman Ahmad, said the senator cannot be intimidated by the move to expel him.
Addressing a news conference, Ahmad said Senator Sani had a right to support anything that was for the interest of the masses and oppose anything against the interest of the masses.
He said the senator had a background as an activist, who stood for the masses.
“As a legislator, his responsibility is to make laws and challenge the shortcomings of the executive.”
