The Peaceful call to End SARS can't be frustrated by anyone. Power belongs to the masses and we are going to keep on exercising our rights as law abiding citizens to demand an end to SARS brutality. People believe that powers belongs to the leaders and flows from top downward. I am here to tell my fellow cheated and frustrated youths that power flows upwards. Power resides with the people. A tyrant’s ability to rule is directly dependent of everyone else’s willingness to cooperate. This is what was discovered by Eugene de La Béotie, David Henry Thoreau, Ghandi, Martin Luther King and several others.
It is our collective responsibility to demand respect for Human Rights and dignity.
We know that the federal government will not change their policies and End SARS just because we asked nicely. They have to be made to change. They have to be made to understand, the glory of the Nigeria Police Force will lose more from keeping their policies than changing them. The process to achieve our objectives have already been initiated and we are not giving up so soon.
This is no longer a situation where you sit and expect change or where you go to the religious house to pray and expect God to do for man what man can do for himself.
The people must understand that what changes governmental policies are massive amount of people refusing to cooperate with the system.
Every Nigerian must realize that these are very difficult times not because the government is failing but because for over the years, we have failed to do that which we should have done as a people and the time to correct our docility of yesterday is today.
Over 200,000 complaints of impunity, extra-judicial killings, extortion and intimidation against SARS were too serious to be ignored or treated with levity by the presidency.
Nigerians have been crying out their ordeal in the hands of SARS operatives and a responsible government shouldn't ignore the allegations coming from distressed citizens.
God gave us 10 commandments but we decided to choose one out of the 10 which is love, one has come to reign over the ten. Yet, many can't adhered to the only one that supersede the ten.
We, the Angry, cheated, vexed, brutalized and frustrated Nigerians came together and reached a resolution on how to better the lives of the Nigeria Police Force while they discharge their primary function of protecting lives and properties effectively and not killing, extorting, raping and brutalizing those they were recruited to protect by listing our demands.
Yet, the Buhari led administration feels that their call for #supportSARS have override our call to #Endsarsbrutality without giving the needed attention to the demands.
A reasonable government, would have listened, reviewed and analyzed the demands to at least see the ones that can be achieved within a short-term.
As bad as we described the National Assembly and the lawmakers to be, when we organized #OccupyNass2 and demanded for #ScrapeTheSenate majority of Nigerians told us it was not possible for the Senate to be scrapped but we went on with the protest because we understood the psychology behind the catch phrase. The Senate President, Bukola Saraki gave us listening ears 👂, formed a committee that looked into the demands and told us that out of the 13 demands only 5 would be passed into law.
Why is it difficult for President Buhari that claimed he is a respecter of the Rule of Law to review the demands of the people?
SARS was formed illegally, and most of SARS operatives are military officers. Government is using illegality to fight legality. No government is capable of stopping the revolution whose time has come for good. The people must be listened to. We are not criminals, we are law abiding citizens and we know that the violation of the right of one man is a threat to everyone.
We have tabled our demands and 21 days ultimatum given to the Presidency to act will soon elapse.
All our objectives will be pursued and aggressively sustained; we will not relent until the wishes of the Nigerian People are met. The campaigns to #Endsars focus but not limited to the following:
1. We demand for an outright scrapping of the entire SARS unit across the country. Its members have become engrossed in crime, murder, brutality, extortion and disrespect for the rule of law in a manner that makes any attempt at reform a waste of time.
2. We demand the constitution of a panel by the Police Services Commission to reform the Nigerian Police in its entirety. The agenda must include provisions for better training of police officers; provision of better equipment and firearms; better welfare including housing, insurance, prompt payment of salaries and pensions etc; establishment of a code of conduct and strict compliance thereto as well as strong disciplinary measures for any officer who violates the code of conduct.
3. We also demand a public hearing at the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to enable Nigerians to table their grievances before our elected representatives as well as the submission of memoranda on reforms of the Nigerian Police including recommendations on the amendment of laws to ensure a more efficient police force.
4. We demand thorough investigations into complaints filed against SARS officers. We demand that such officers be identified and immediately brought to justice. In some cases, we will provide video and pictorial evidence against officers who have been seen to be involved in such acts of brutality and extortion.
