Two chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state and Senator Buruji Kashamu are not in agreement over the best way to criticise President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
While Fayose accused Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of deceiving Nigerians, Kashamu asked the critics to stop destructive criticism and rather offer constructive advice, Vanguard reports.
Fayose never misses any opportunity to criticise President Buhari. He recently saidNigerians were duped by the APC as they have denied all their electoral promises.
“Everything Buhari and his party promised Nigerians when they were looking for votes, they have denied and it won’t be a surprise if one day, Buhari also deny that he was elected on the platform of APC,” he said.
Kashamu, representing Ogun East senatorial district urged Nigerians to support the president and join hands to build the nation.
Speaking on Tuesday, March 1, during an empowerment programme, the senator said: “President Muhammadu Buhari is on course. Why it looks as if there are some dislocations is because of the blockage of lose funds and sources of financial leakages in the system. I am persuaded that in a short while things will pick up.
“Nigerians should not allow politicians to deceive them. We tend to play politics with everything. We forget that the elections or campaigns are over. Now, we have a government in place. We should rise above selfish and narrow partisan interest and join hands to build our country by offering constructive advice just as some senior citizens like Prof. Wole Soyinka and Chief Emeka Anyaoku have done. We have no other country than Nigeria.”
He challenged those fond of critising Buhari to show the public what they have done to improve the economy of their states.
According to Kashamu, if they pull down the federal government, they are taking their states and people back by several years.
“Is the allocation from the Federation Account not the mainstay source of their states’ revenue? How tolerant are they of the opposition in their states?” he queried.
Governor Fayose is constantly criticising the president and has come under attack for doing so. According to him, his words and actions against the president will help Nigerians to have dividends of democracy, adding that lack of consistent and constructive criticisms of public office holders gives birth to dictatorial governance.
