We heard feedback prior to the roundtables and also at the roundtables that this was a point of concern for women. And it’s a real point of concern for some women in certain regions of the world where it [impersonation] may have certain cultural or social ramifications.According to Facebook, impersonation isn’t really a widespread issue on Facebook but it still calls for action. Facebook is also testing a photo checkup feature to help bolster privacy on the platform. As part of this, Facebook intends to stop people sharing consensual intimate images of others without their consent.
Facebook Will Now Let You Know If Someone Has Faked Your Profile
Impersonation is one of the biggest problems on social media but
Facebook is now rolling out a feature to let you know if someone is
impersonating you. Fake profiles has become the bane of social networks,
not just Facebook. In an article that first appeared on Mashable, it
was reported that this feature has already been enabled for seventy-five
percent of Facebook users.
When Facebook automatically determines someone else is impersonating
you, you will get a notification asking you to identify if the profile
in question is actually impersonating you. According to the report, the
notification process is automated but the final decision will have to go
through a manual review.
