BREAKING: Dogara axes chairman of appropriation committee
Honorable Yakubu Dogara, the Speaker, House of Representatives has removed the Chairman of the committee on appropriation, Mr Abdulmumin Jibrin.
The Punch reports that Jibrin, an APC member from Kano state, hard serious disagreements with his colleagues over the handling of the controversial 2016 budget. Jibrin’s removal was announced on the floor of the House today, July 20 by Speaker Yakubu Dogara. He was replaced by Hon Mustapha Bala Dawaki (APC, Kano), who hitherto chaired the committee on housing.
Daily Trust reports that Jibrin was enmeshed in controversy following revelations that he allocated projects worth over N4 billion to his Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State. Sources reveal that following the revelations, several members had demanded for his resignation, but Dogara had prevailed on them to shelve their demands.
Speaking shortly before the house adjourned its Wednesday sitting, Dogara informed his colleagues that the house leadership had taken the decision to replace Jibrin as the committee chairman.
“He met me and said he does not think he would continue as the committee chairman due to pressure of the work,” Dogara said. Adding that he added the decision to remove Jibrin had already been taken. The Cable reports that recently, when the house debated the immunity clause for the national assembly leadership, Jibrin was heavily booed by his colleagues, who kept shouting at him: “Ole“, “thief”.
Jibrin also recently begged members of the National Assembly to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war. His reaction came shortly after the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the National Assembly withdrew their support for the government of President Muhammadu Buhari. Only 15 senators also passed a voted of confidence on the president.
