A Nigerian man was killed after an alleged street fight over a phone on Monday, November 13, in the Olivenhoutbosch area of Gauteng, South Africa. Police spokesperson captain Mavela Masondo (pictured) who confirmed the incident said it was a "mob justice” and a suspect has been arrested.
"The deceased was wrestling with arrested suspect over a phone. The community joined in and continued to assault the victim,” he said.
Masondo said the detained suspect was a South African.
“Paramedics declared him dead at the scene,” he added.
After the incident, a group of Nigerians went to the Olivenhoutbosch police station to find out what happened at the scene.
“When they got there, they started acting violent,” said Masondo.
He added that the murderer’s identity was unknown as yet.
