The Birniwa Local Government of Jigawa has embarked on the mobilisation of religious and traditional leaders as change agents towards the eradication of polio in the area.
The council chairman, Alhaji Ali Diginsa, announced this on Wednesday in Birniwa at a meeting with members of the council’s polio task force committee.
Represented by Alhaji Lawal Ibrahim, Director of Administration in the council, Diginsa said that the council would focus on border communities in the fight against the disease.
“We give special attention to border communities. The council will continue to give necessary support to facilitate smooth conduct of the exercise billed to commence on Jan. 25,’’ he said.
The chairman urged parents to present their children during the exercise to eradicate the disease in the area.
Mr Datti Arobade, Manager, National Programme on Immunisation (NPI) in charge of Birniwa, said the meeting was aimed at addressing some of the problems recorded during previous exercises.
He said that the meeting would fashion out strategies for successful conduct of the forthcoming immunisation exercise in the area.
