5. Charni Ekangamene

Ekangamene, 19, is a midfielder who plays especially well providing good cover in front of defenders in a holding midfield role. 
The Belgian joined United in 2010 and after Christmas last season, became one of the most important members of the Under-21 side.
He scored a vital goal against Arsenal last season and he continues to develop his attacking style this year. Ekangamene shows determination and energy in his tackles and a good awareness of opposing teams attacking threats
He has featured for Belgium at international level, playing for the Under-16 and Under-17 teams.

4. Michael Keane

Keane’s preferred position is centre-half, but he has shown his versatility in the back four by comfortably playing full-back on a number of occasions. 

The 20-year-old is from Stockport and joined United in 2009. He has made three first-team appearances with his debut coming at United’s win at Aldershot in the Carling Cup in 2011. Keane also impressed in Capital One appearances against Newcastle and Chelsea. 

In 2012, Keane won Reserve Team Player of the Year in what was a successful season for him. He was the player who featured most at the reserve level, playing an astounding 30 times and scoring five goals. 
He went on loan to Leicester where playing first-team football week after week helped Keane to develop in his strength and technical ability. Keane is currently on loan at Derby County gaining more first-team experience until January.

3. Marnick Vermijl


The 21-year old Belgian joined United in 2010 from Standard Liege. Vermijl is currently on loan at Dutch side NEC until the end of the season.

He plays at right-back and has shown attacking potential on the wing. After playing a vital part in the reserve's defence, he was short-listed for Reserve Team Player of the Year last season.

One of Vermijl’s most memorable performances came during the Under-21 Premier League final against Tottenham, where he scored the first goal in United’s comeback that saw them lift the title.

Last season he was consistent in his right-back position, playing 26 times in the Under-21 team and scoring five goals. His debut for the first-team was against Newcastle in the Capital One Cup win last season.

2. Tom Thorpe



Manchester born Thorpe, is captain of the Under-21 side. The 20-year-old was one of the players who featured most for the side last season.

His preferred position is central defence, although he did complete a stint last season in midfield. After joining United in 2009, Thorpe has progressed at both club and international level, captaining England’s Under-19’s. He has also been selected as part of England’s Under-20 World Cup squad.

He was short-listed for reserve team player of the year, and shows a lot of promise after scoring two goals for the Under-21’s last season.

He is good in the air posing a threat to the opposition from set-pieces. He has also demonstrated composure on the ball and in his passing ability.

1. Adnan Januzaj

Adnan Januzaj has shown enormous potential after breaking into the first-team at the beginning of this season. As one of United’s most exiting young players, Januzaj has recently signed a five-year-deal that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2018.

The 18-year-old won Reserve Team Player of the Year for 2012/13 and has since gone on to make 15 appearances for the first-team already this season, scoring three vital goals. His first-team competitive debut came against Wigan in United’s Community Shield win after he impressed David Moyes during the pre-season tour where he scored his first goal against Kitchee FC. The Belgian joined United in 2011 and has shown potential as a lone striker for the Under-21’s. He has also featured in midfield as a winger for the first-team. 

His impressive display against Sunderland on his full debut, where he scored both goals in the Reds 2-1 win, demonstrates Januzaj's exiting potential.
